The most impressive things I found on this year’s Floriade Show are not tulip oceans with assorted bright colours that I had been seeing for years, but a couple of exhibitions held in marquees.
One is Steven Parish‘s Photo Exhibition, where I see some eye-catching photographic master pieces not only impacts on my eyes, but also my heart. They said he is almost an icon of Australia, and very accidentially I’ve set his photo collection as my office screen saver. However, I wouldn’t take whatever other people have told me until I see those photos with only one foot away, like today. This guy is absolutely brilliant and his works are just stunning.
Another exhibit was the Beanie Marquee from Artback Northern Territory Arts, where I see the most unique and creative beanies made of knitting yarn or other Australian local materials. Most of them were knitted or felted by hands. The designs are full of vitality and have a considerably relation to the aboriginal culture or nature scenes. I can see that each of beanies is a journey for its maker and what really makes them different is all about THE IDEAS.
However, with all the respect to what’s the most highlighted part of the Floriade, I MUST NOT forget mentioning those beautiful tulips, even though they look pretty dusty after 3 crazy windy days. Of course I love them, particualy when the light is right. I just love to see them bathing in the sun at the perfectest moment of the day.
