I believe that there is something going on with Queanbeyan Showground. The big container trucks from Freight Company are gathering there and, there is a big funny-shaped indoor stadium covered with yellow and red painting strips has been built up with only an overnight’s time. The flyers sticked on the windows at many front shops in Monaro Street say that the Stardust Circus will be held soon in QBN. I guess it will be it.

Strangely I always wonder why I am a person who hates circuses and magic shows so much. I would never take the pleasure from seeing people magically appearing in an empty box or animals jumping successfully over a burning ring. I don’t think it is fun at all, not because I am an animal lover or animal rights fighter, I just don’t feel comfortable with that because I can not see any human joy and kindness in it. All the behaviours of these kinds of shows are not natural. They look like we can get away from earth creatures’ instincts and fears.

What fun can you get from seeing an elephant kneel down, ride a bicycle or march in a line? If you like and pay me, I could have kneeled down 1000 times a day, ride a bike 20ks per hour and marched in a line with other 200 young girls dressed in mini skirts. But I wouldn’t do that because I can refuse to do that. What about animals? They do that for a couple of pieces of cookies, pork bones or several bananas? Also, what’s the fun and beauty of seeing an animal perform something what s/he is not supposed to be able to do? Like big heavy elephants pushing the wheels? I would love to go & see bikini girls pushing the pigs on the showground, better they are naked or something. But would it be atheistically and physically beautiful for an animal performing a human’s behaviours? Not at all!

I would always be amazed by animals’ capabilities of doing something unusual, but I would never be amazed by their skills gained through a cruel training. The magic shows are the same things. We love surprises and see miracles, but what’s the fun to see something happen when you knew it didn’t really happen? When you understand it is just a manipulated deception to fool your eyes, would you still laugh out loudly?
