My husband’s blog is offering a link to see the latest Zhang Yimou’s movie The Curse of The Golden Flowers. I clicked and watched. Apparently it’s another BIG story of Zhang. It is not as bad as his other BIG movies. Not that he has improved a bit on story telling, it’s just because this is a story adapted from Cao Yu’s Thunderstorm. Cao is of course a good writer, but there are only two types of stories in the world, the one you like and the one you don’t like, regardless how good it is. I never likes Therderstorm. It’s a cold stuff and none of the characters have ever moved my soul.

However, the lights, colours and the scenes dazzled me so much that after that, I started to feel pain with my eyes and a bit sick. I suspect if Zhang could live without those kinds of elements in his movies. He is the one who I reckon would never be able to make a simple movie at all. He needs something to cover his weakness, what he is not capable and his superficial addiction in costumes, scenes, lighting effects, shooting angels and colour matching (or contrasting). It feels impacting when you are watching them in a movie, but after you get your eyes off that, there is nothing left in your heart. I wondered when he will get sick of himself and try something else. And you….do you believe our whole world really likes this kind of stuff and always buys it?
