My recent attention has been mostly focused on the upcoming event of Federal Election in the next month. Radio talks about that, TV talks about that and people talk about that. We keep receiving flyers in our mailbox this week. Labour Candidate for Eden-Monaro Mike Kelly is going to host a sausage sizzling BBQ lunch at Queanbeyan Park this Sunday, while Liberal candidate Gary Nairn tried to send the message to us that Labour is very inexperienced on economic side and even dangerous to small business owners.
Personally I don’t like John Howard because A, he’s been there so long and I doubt if he already had lost his passion also his touch; B, regardless the recent 10 years’ economic stability and increasing tendency, the ordinary people didn’t get much obvious benefits in their daily lives. The fuel price is too high, the renting rates are still rising, the money invested on education has been reduced, and we can’t even find a doctor who can do bulk billing in Queanbeyan. I personally met Gary Nairn once in our office and he seemed a very nice and genuine guy, but it means nothing. You know that if Liberal won, you can’t count on them very much, as there won’t be much to be changed.
As for the Labour, you don’t get the feeling of being secure enough, so you are not sure if you want to take a risk for only some uncertain possibilities or something might happen or not happen. Our region’s Labour candidate Mike, in my opinion, has a strange look, like a Black Hand from Sicily, while Kevin Rudd looks much better than him; at least his son-in-law has some Chinese blood.
So it’s a dilemma. People who have power make mistakes because they do; while people who don’t have power don’t do, so they don’t make mistakes. But who knows whether or not they would make mistakes if they did do something?
But think about this….how many days I could get involved in politics per year? Not many, probably only 1-2 days every 3 or 4 years. For the rest of thousands of days, I live out my life like any of others, paying bills, buying food and making a living. For an ordinary person like me, we don’t care which party governs the country, who is the one looks better, speaks nicer or shouts louder. At end of the day, let’s be realistic. It doesn’t make any difference who wins as there is not much room left for whoever wants to make a difference nowadays. Anyway, I look forward to see the debate between Mr. Rudd and Mr. Howard on this Sunday.
