At this very stage of mine being obsessive with knitting, I am particularly crazy about two knitting techniques. One is Entrelac and another is Norwegian Fair Isle. I just can’t believe it. I mean how could human being be so smart that they can create something like that??? So beautifully made and I am so impressed. I have put entrelac knitting as my first priority to learn after finishing the socks I am doing currently. Actually I don’t really want to knit a real thing by using this technique; I just want to knit a small piece to see how it would come out with the texture. I heard many knitters said that Entrelac could make people very addictive. When they are doing Entrelac, they just can’t stop knitting the next square and the next one….until all yarn rans out. I can’t wait to try it out.

As for Fair Isle, it’s not something new. I particularly like two-coloured fair isle which forms a very obvious contrast. I found that fair isle work better in a small part of the whole project, like cuffs of socks, lower part of pullover, in the middle of a bag, but not looks good when use it everywhere. That would be too hilarious. And I also dislike too complicated patterns because it gives you nothing if you look at it from a distance. It also demands high skills on colour matching and extra patience, so does the Entrelac technique.

I don’t have a clear idea about what thing I want to knit by using these two techniques. What I can picture so far is a knitted bag for my husband’s iRiver MP3 Player, with a fair isle design, or maybe also the felting technique to be used. My husband would love that, would he? Another thing I can think about is a table runner for our coffee table which is chocolate with really fragile finish, so I think it needs a table runner to protect the surface. I hope I can use Entrelac to do it, and I also hope at two ends of the runner, I could make some long fringe to decorate it. What colour? I would try the various shades of reds, oranges, browns or olive greens. I will see what they are selling in Spotlight. The ideal yarn should be something more than one colour randomly spined in for every strand.
