Wow! I had a lovely night at The Ginger Room in the Old Parliament House. It was the first time for me to be there. I’ve been to the new Parliament House for several times and I don’t really like it. People used to tell me how nice the old one is, but I never got a chance to visit. Here I was. We booked our Xmas dinner in this place and ready to enjoy the delicious food and beautiful setting. My colleagues all dressed up (chiffon, embroidery details on the dress, ) much more than what I thought they would (I thought they might want to dress down a bit for this occasion, but I was wrong). Luckily, I picked my long and silk-ish textured flower printed skirt in the last minute. Even that, I still looked quite simple.
We order a bottle of Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. It doesn’t really have a colour, and looks almost like Vodka. But it taste so lovely, and I couldn’t stop drinking. Hehe, I am naughty. The Room was quite hot, after a couple of sips, I got flush
I skipped the Entrée, but ordered Poached Ocean Trout with Saffron and Vanilla Bean Beurre Blanc as the main course. I was meaning to eat something that I don’t eat very often at home or somewhere else, so trout looked nice to meet my needs. It turned out I made the right choice, although when I saw other people’s plates, their food all looked beautiful. The sauce was very nicely made with a mild flavour but pleasant; the trout has been cooked just right, not too much. The texture of the trout still remained its best condition, and with the sauce, it gave a creamy and fresh taste. Well, that’s what I say about the quality. As for the quantity, I have to say Chinese people, like me, have to get used to the scene where tiny quantity of food only occupies a small area in a super big plate. That’s pretty much the western style, unless you eat it in a take away shop where you have a full plate of fish and chips, and the lemon wedge nearly falling off the dish. We also ordered some fresh green leaf salad and steaming Asian vegetable.
The main course arrived until 9:25pm, I was starving already. Fortunately I had some fried rice at home before I headed off, otherwise I might get passed out
After the main course, I ordered a desert called Roasted Apricots filled with Blue Cheese and almonds on the top of white ice cream, but at that time, after the drinks and talking, I was already full. The blue cheese was nice; apricots also are my favourite fruit; Ice cream, how could I say no to it? I ate them all up and felt like to loose the button. Well, I don’t have a button, there was only a zip for the skirt.
The only pity is the light of restaurant was too dim. I had to take the photo with the flash light turned on. I hate using flash light all the time, so I didn’t take as many photos as I wanted. But we had laughs. People told the jokes all the way home and funny stories of themselves or other’s at the dinner.
I felt tired when I got back home at half past eleven near the midnight. Tomorrow we will have one more dinner to go at friend’s place. I have started to arrange the activities around the Christmas Holiday. No doubt that the party season is coming!!!
