I am running later for this year’s tax return. Usually I get that done in the early of August through e-Tax, but this year, I just found it too difficult to handle.

About 5 weeks ago right after we got back from China, I started to look at this thing. However, According to my calculation with e-Tax software this year, I worked out that I probably have to give quite an amount of money back to the Tax Office instead of having tax return like what I had in the previous a number of years, which was very frustrating.

I decided to hang on to it for a while until I go and talk to someone else or a professional accountant. But to be honest, I am very reluctant to go to see any accountant. The reasons for that are: one, I think my case is very straight-forward. If I couldn’t figure it out myself NOW, I probably will never be able to figure it out for the rest of my life, as my case will only become more complex than getting easier.

Reason No. 2 is, I don’t trust accountants. I know they are experts on lots of financial things, but for a worth of $120 individual tax payer’s case, they wouldn’t use best of their knowledge as we would expect. It would be pretty much like putting yourself into a dummy position and letting them to fill in the form for you. Once you hand over your case, you actually are also giving away your brain.

You stop questioning, doubting and exploring, and you have no control about what can be done. People tend to think that the money they pay to an accountant can kind of help them to save thinking, that’s why they pay. But can they really? Nobody knows you better than yourself, nobody could even bother thinking about you more than yourself. Why would they? If you have a brain functioning as equally well as those accountants’, why couldn’t you manage to do the tax return yourself? And why couldn’t you understand those tax terms, rules and calculation methods yourself?

So after two months hanging over there, I finally came to a decision.I am going to do it myself. And in order to do that, I am going to do some more intensive studies on this and to see if I can do it differently from what I had tried for the first time.

You know what? If this is going okay, I probably will TOTALLY change my this year’s tax return result, as I found something really really important…..
