There has been too much news in regard to China lately. A big contract signed between China and Australia over Perth in APEC, Women’s World Cup being held in Chengdu now where the match between Canada and Australia had been just postponed, and the very recent and the most shocking one, a 3-years-old Chinese New Zealand girl being abandoned in Melbourne Railway station by her father who was the suspected murderer of girl’s mother and probably had fled to America….

Every time I listen to the radio, no matter it’s in morning, afternoon or at night, there is always something in relation to China going on, which you can say “well, now China is getting so important and popular in the world that nobody can ignore her existence….”

But the other side of story is that China is not doing the same at their end. Every evening from 7pm to 7:30pm, listening to the CCTV news is like a religion to most of Chinese people, especially in the past 20 years. However, what did Chinese people hear from that? Last year when I was home, what I heard was:

Japanese or Taiwanese politicians fighting in the House, protest going on in Sydney, people robbed or killed on streets, an English old lady being found in her own house and have been dead for more than one month, Western children not willing to look after their parents as they are cold-blooded, fire going on, suicide committed by Chinese overseas students due to pressure…..No news about outside China sounds good (neither does it sound important), which gives Chinese people a wrong impression that people living in another world are having really miserable lives. Mom used to ring me from China saying that “don’t go to Sydney this week as something is going on and the place is not safe…” I go What???.#$!%^&*……not safe? Why I didn’t know about that “something? ”

But on the other hand, you heard 5 minutes mini program in the middle of CCTV news telling you the stories about some modelling communists and the great things they have done in the past 5-10 years. Personally I am not against this sort of advocacy, but technically it’s NOT NEWS AT ALL (and, they are not even something could be called “Current Affairs”) and it shouldn’t be included in 30 minutes CCTC news program. But I do wonder, “if they don’t have that, what else can they have?”
