We went to a friend’s 30-years-old birthday party this afternoon. I guess it would not matter even if I had to skip the part about the lovely winter’s afternoon sunshine in their front garden, friends gathering up for a good 3 hours’ time and having some beers, wine and beautiful party food, as the real star is their new family member, Rosie, a kind of bird can only be seen in Western Australia.
She is really unique and pretty. I had seen lots of white Cockatoos with yellow crest in Canberra, as Cockatoo is actually ACT’s state bird. But the colour like Rosie has, never had been known to me. The light pink of her head and in front of her chest, looks really mild and her hair looks so fine and soft that I couldn’t compress my feelings to touch her. Well, she does bite, so I wouldn’t bother trying to touch her anyway.
For a moment, she opened up her crest on the top of head. It’s absolutely beautiful. I described it as the hair decoration of American Indian people. I can’t help wondering how come a bird can look like this. Comparing to the animal world, like tropical fishes, different kinds of butterflies and birds, would you believe that human being actually look so dull and ugly?
Our friend’s father-in-law made Rosie a huge cage where she can have a big space to live out her happy life. I was really amazed by Aussie’s DIY capacity and ability. They said this sort of bird can live up to 60 to 70 years old. I nearly died. How could that possibly happen? I would rather die if I had to live in a cage:-( Anyway, Rosie is quiet and kind of has a good personality. She didn’t scream and occasionally showed off her pretty crest to her audience to entertain them. I hope she will have a happy long life.
We had a birthday cake at about 4pm. Then the afternoon sun started to go down, we wrapped us up and transferred back to indoor. The warm party food was continuously served by the birthday girl. It was a lovely and cozy party. Happy birthday!
