I spent quite a few hours today practising reverse parking. My husband had developed a theory called “DMTT” to help me turn this most difficult driving skill to absolute an easy piecy. The name DMTT is an abbreviation of 4 reference points at different stages:
- Preparation: First try to park your own car as close as possible to the reference car in a paralleled way (step 1 in the picture below);
- Then full lock to left turn to reverse the moving car until the Driver seat (your seat) of your car is aligned with the right tail of the reference car (step 2) ;
- Then full lock to right turn to reverse your car until the left Mirror is aligned with the right tail of the reference car (step 3);
- Then full lock to left turn to reverse your car until the Tail of the moving car gets close to the kerbside (step 4);
- Then right turn the wheel to reverse the car until the left Tyres of your car is parallelled to the kerb (step 5);
- Finally, subtly adjust to make sure the distance between the car to the reference car in front is approriate (step 6, done!).
Does it make sense? I tried many times, including on different reference cars which parked at different places, including night time in the main street of Queanbeyan. It had never failed, even it was performed by me, a person who has never tried it before and had just started to learn how to do reverse parking from today.
What are your tips for reverse parking?
