I am not a moon cake person at all because they are TOOOOOOOO sweat and back to the time in China, relatives, friends and companies GAVE you moon cakes as presents, so you never bought them. Years after years, every moon festival of a year, when you look at a pile of moon cake boxes given by others, you just turned your head away and your stomach said “No”. Nobody would be interested in anything that is TOOOOO easy to get. That is our problem, indeed.

Here, the life is different. If you don’t take a note on this date, no one would remind you. You want an excuse to celebrate it, you got to buy moon cakes yourself.

Last year we left it until the last minute, which was really bad. We went to a few shops in Dickson on that day at about 8pm, and no shop had any moon cakes left for sale. We ended up no moon cakes for last year. So we decided to learn the lesson and prepare ourselves well beforehand.

Therefore, my husband bought two boxes of moon cakes on Tuesday. One of them is said the best brand in Macau and has more than 100 years history. Another one is made in Hong Kong and called snowskin moon cake. They have very soft whiteish skin and probably were made with icing sugar and rice flour other than normal flour.

For some reason, I am actually looking forward to eating them this year :-) They are not cheap, but considering we only eat them once a year, which means that maybe we only eat moon cakes at most about 70-80 occassions for a whole life, so why not??? I will do a big fruit platter to go with it as well.
