I was in a pharmacy today to see if I can buy some folic acid.I was confused by blackmoore’s two different sorts of pink bottle packs. One is called Foliate, 90 tablets per bottle. Another one is called i-Folic, 150 tablets in one pack.

It tooke me a while to find out what this i-Folic is about. This “i” actually stands for iodine, which means except folic acid, this one also contains iodine. Since I got to know its meaning, all my attention actually has gone from folic acid to iodine.
Believe it or not, I actually found something else quite worth mentioning to those people who might not know this as follows:

“Iodine is present in fairly constant amounts in seawater, but its distribution over land and fresh water is uneven. In continents such as Australia and New Zealand, natural iodine levels are very low in the soils where we grow our vegetables, grains and graze livestock.”

Basically, it says that people living in Australia are more vulunable to those iodine deficency disorders. New research shows that thyroid disease affects one in seven Australians.Fifty per cent of children and pregnant or breastfeeding women living in Australia have been shown to be iodine deficient, or at risk of developing thyroid disease. Also, Iodine deficiency is a major cause of lowered IQ in children. “

The main sources of iodine are marine seafood, dairy milk or dairy products and foods containing iodised salt, so here you go….Do you use iodised salt when cooking? If you don’t, you’d better to start to do it now. Do you eat relatively enough amount of seafood and dairy products in your diet? If you don’t, start to catch up with it before it’s too late.
