I haven’t mentioned about knitting for quite a while. Not that I only had 3 days’ fever about it and abandoned it quickly after I got sick of that. No, it’s nothing like that at all. I am still knitting, but not as hurry as I’ve been in the past a couple of months. I realised that I have to slow down and allow myself cool down a little bit, otherwise I would not be doing anything else.

I have a great number of things (hobbies, passions) carrying on in my life that I enjoy very much. I just feel that the time is always not enough for me to accomplish them all and make them to the best. Life is too short, when people have something they really care about, the clock maybe tickles even faster. I always sighed at the end of the day “I wish I could have two more hours….”

Anyway, last night I have finished another small project which started the early of last week. It’s a roll-up knitting needle case with the cable band inside to hold the stuff. The original pattern is from Berrocco and is supposed to be felted after the knitting to create a seamless perfect look for a tool bag. I modified a lot during doing this project.

1) I didn’t do the felting because the yarn I use is acrylic instead of pure wool, and acrylic is not suit for felting at all;
2) I tried to get rid of chocolate coloured left-over yarn which already becomes a pain in my knitting torte when every time I look at them. I am filled up with them so much that I just want to make it disappear ASAP :-) . I used two strands of yarn to create a very tight texture look, so the needles won’t come off from the loops of stitches, and the yarn can ran out doubly quick :-)
3) The cable band inside the case was also knitted with left over yarn, but with contrasting colours, ginger and creamy grey, which I used to knit gloves and socks. I thought ginger would be enough for me to cover the whole job, but it turned out that I had to join another colour of yarn on the very last cm of my work, which was a pity;
4) I made a very nice edge along the both sides of case with contrasting ginger colour to avoid a curly edging. I made it with crochet hook, which was also the first time I did something on crochet;
5) I also made two long chains (with crochet by making chain stitches) to hold the roll in place, which gives the case a more stylish look at the end, and I am very happy with the final effect it comes up;
6) Also I made a button hole in the middle to further secure the case in its place when rolled up;

When my husband got to know I was going to do a case like that, he thought I was just kidding. He didn’t believe I could finally get to go to somewhere. But he didn’t against me to keep going, and he just let me play with it. However, last night when I presented him my finished work, he was surprised to see the needles didn’t come off the case as what he assumed at the beginning. On the contrary, they stay well no matter how I shake it.

Forgot to say another reason drove me to make this case is I don’t really like the original dark green plastic needle case that came in with needles. Now I have a new home for them all. (Oh, probably not all because I do have a lot of needles). But at least I can say a new home for 11 sets of different size of needles at the moment. I will post a photo very soon.
