I still couldn’t believe that my first intake as a care planner was a Chinese. I have been doing the work on every Friday for 3 weeks. As I am still in the training stage, it’s not a compulsary for me to take the phone call or not to take it. It’s totally up to me. People are hoping I would decide when is the best time to feel ready to start to take the call. I said “today” as I really wanted to practise and give it a go rather than just reading the things or listening to others. I feel it’s the time to do something.

The whole morning has been quiet, until the coordinators from other two departments walked in, seeking the assistance for a Chinese lady and her husband in wheelchair. I seemed like the perfect person to take that. Look, I am an interpreter, a Carer Respite Centre’s staff and having Chinese background….. en…..actually who would fit in this kind of situation better than me? It took me almost 50 minutes to talk to the lady over the phone to find out what’s happening, also tried to calm her down as she was extremely stressed.

Believe it or not! It’s such a rare thing. We have a client database with more than 2000 clients registered, but there is none of them from China :-( Queanbeyan and the whole Southern Highlands region is just not a place where Chinese people choose to live, so I never would have a chance to talk to any Chinese (that was what I thought before). But see….my first intake….how could I believe this?

However, can I just say it might be a good sign for me? I am not a very superstitious person on my work stuff, but what else can be reasonable enough to explain all this? Hehe…I am usable :-)
