Our BBQ stove finally arrived on last Friday. So over this short weekend, we almost had BBQ dinner every day. I was asked to do a quick shopping on the Friday night as my husband wanted to try out our new stove immediately after he spent a good hour installing the new thing. So I drove in the rain to Woolworth to get things, then he started to cook in our courtyard with raindrops still drizzling down from the sky….We had lamb chops, beef steaks, sausages, chicken, squid rings, and lots of veggies, like onions, eggplants, capsicums and flat mushroom. Both my husband’s and my tongues felt a bit funny at the end of weekend.

I love BBQ, but now I found that I even love it more, because what had happened over this weekend made me believe that our BBQ stove is actually providing a good respite for myself. My husband loves doing BBQ. He occupied the stove all the time. I was so surprised to see this, because normally my husband would get his hands off any sort of household chores in the kitchen if he can simply avoid them. But look at him now, he became a totally different person. He cleans, grills, sprays the oil, turns the food over, sprinkles the spices, scrubs hard and whatever is required to make a good BBQ, he would do it.

His behaviours actually left me very small amount of work in the kitchen. I only needed to chop the things up, marinade some meat and occasionally go to see if my husband needs a hand. It was a heaven to me and I just can’t believe this is happening just because a BBQ stove. My God, if I knew it, I would have bought it much earlier :-)

I wondered if this happens on other men. But think about those images on TV and other commercial ads, there is always man standing there doing BBQ. Does that mean men are particularly BBQ lovers?
