I hate going through any farewell moment, I always do. So this early morning after we handed over our old Holden Commodore to its new host, Adam and Joanne couple, I didn’t stand outside the door watching it leaving. My husband did. He gave him (he said he likes to call “him”) some emotional pats like a sentimental girl as Adam was starting the engine, and he stood there witnessing him leaving his life forever until the car completely disappeared in his eyes. He was brave, I don’t know how he made it. Maybe he just wanted to possess the last moment to have a last look at his buddy that has been accompanying him for nearly 4 years. Now our buddy has finished his assignment with us and going to his new mission. We have to accept the fact that we probably would never see him again in our life, not see him parking on the lawn after we got back from the work, not be able to drive him to practise my driving anymore. There are just too many unforgettable memories about this car, pleasant or unpleasant (but now it’s all pleasant left). This time, he’s really gone, leaving a big hole in our hearts.

I never thought letting him go would have been so hard and stirred my mind this much. We started to think about replacing him long time ago and we actually did it in the early of this year. As we didn’t do anything about trying to sell him out, we haven’t felt any actual pain of letting him go until this morning. We love buying things, but we don’t know how to make a fortune from what we have got, that’s why we have never been rich in our life, and that also explains a little why our buddy was still with us 9 months after we bought a new car.

However, now I see why people say that the life is cruel. We take something in, and sooner or later we have to let them go. I guess it’s just the time, it’s the turn for our old mate to go to a new place to serve for other people who need him more. But the whole thing happened too quickly, quicker than what we have thought it could be. My husband posted an ad in the Trading Post at Monday night, and the ad had was published in the next morning. In the same morning, Joanne contacted us by phone. After the work, she with her family, her husband Adam and her 19 months old boy came over to have a close look at the car, and then they left 100 bucks deposit and promised to pick up the car at 9am next morning. This morning they came even 10 minutes earlier. The whole deal only took no more than 24 hours. Now we’ve got money, not much but enough to make us satisfied since we never tried to make a fortune from it.

More importantly, we found that Joanne, Adam and even their little boy loved the car and they looked at him like looking at an old friend for the first sight, which somehow reminded us how we felt when buying our buddy from a private owner 4 years ago. I guess it wouldn’t be better for this situation. The thing we want to see the most is to see people happy when they take it, which made us feel like we have found a good host for our old buddy and he is going to a place where he will be treated with respect and care.
