We went to Jindabyne lake for fishing with another couple on the weekend. The weather was really “helpful” in the last three days. The rain, like the fame, just chases us no matter where we go.
We took off from Queanbeyan in the light rain Saturday morning. When we arrived at Cooma, it was much like a drizzle. We didn’t care much, as we still had plenty of time to pray for the miracle to happen for the rest of the trip. By the time we checked in the Jindabyne Holiday Park, it was pouring.
I really couldn’t see how this fishing trip was going to end, as to me, there is no joy of standing in the heavy rain to throw a hook.
However, the two men in our team were extremely keen, though none of them was anything even close to a pro. But they went to the waters anyway, in the heavy rain wearing their so called water proof outfits.
According to my observation, all they have done in the past two days was nothing but getting themselves soooooooooo wet, losing their hooks, lures and breaking the fishing rod. But they still kept going until they had no dry clothes to get changed.
You can’t say that they were being stupid as enthusiastic people are worth being respected, but they are absolutely loonies, given that both of them are supposed to have the IQ to estimate that their chances of catching a fish was extremely slim (not so much because of the weather but more about their fishing skills).
Me, my four and half months old and my girlfriend who is pregnant for seven and half months, spent most of our time wondering what’s wrong with these two men in the motel room or in the car with rain windscreen turned on the fastest setting.
Vivian was really good (I say this not because I am a proud but blind mother). She slept well in the strange park unit, even with noisy rain drops hitting the roof so madly at the first night. She sat with us every meal in a restaurant or next to the dinning table making very mild but pleasant noises to please herself or us. How sweet!
I am just so blessed to have her. She was interested in all sorts of her surroundings and being very friendly to our friends. BTW, she finally started to grab the little toy elephant hanging on her pram.
This is the first time she slept outside the home and she adjusted really well. We actually tried to make best use of this opportunity to practise how to manage this kind of travel circumstances.
By the way, the meals over this weekend were very delicious. We brought over Korean BBQ stuff and made some Sichuan wonton as well. The “fishermen” didn’t expect that they could eat so well……oh yeah, we could have punished them by providing no food just because they caught nothing:-)
The day before we headed back home, the sun came out. We stopped by Thedbo River and guess what, the “crazy two men gang” never gave up. Their hands got itchy again.
That morning they picked up their fishing rods and jumped into the river bank again. Of course, it’s not hard to imagine……there were more hooks left in Jindabyne.
