I saw people posted their photos in the Internet of having used one skein of pure wool yarn to make a wonderful felted bowl. I was amazed to see the plain knitting texture magically disappeared and turned to a final soft and beautiful result. I wonder why and how. There is a book for sell in A&R Queanbeyan shop called “FELT” even giving me a broader idea about how felting works on different fabric and achieves its different results. Some of the projects introduced in the book look so natural and original that I couldn’t believe they are something actually made by human’s hands instead of mother natural’s power.
If you ever have seen Noni’s felted bags, you would definitely agree with me and ask the same question “how come”? After wash a piece of wool fabric with very hot water and landury liquid, then rinse it with cold water, the nature of wool allows you to change the apperance. The fabric looks thicker, denser and stronger. The original knitting pattern disaapears, and the fabric becomes carpet liked stuff.
I am going to test a small project first, like a small felted bowl which can hole some little stuff, like keys, clips or USB drives at a desk. Panda has Woolbale suitable for felting. It might be something I need to get. But I would really love to get some bring colour, or two extremely contrasting colours. I will see if I can make it happen in the next a couple of months. Itchy hands…………
