Our landlord sent us a letter to say that they will increase the rent by another $15 each week from the early of August. Last year around the same time our rent had already been raised once by $10 each week. Thought he wouldn’t do the same to us again, but see what we have now….the lesson is, never never believe your landlord would consider his tenants from their perspective!

Our landlord (actually a couple) originally from Syria (it could have been nothing to do with where they are from, but now everything could be). When we got this house, we were very happy and grateful. They seemed very nice persons and we love the place very much (even now). Though there were other applicants wanting this place as much as we do at the same time, as my husband is with ANU, and the male landlord is working there as a staff as well, so this couple almost immediately made their decision to give the house to us.

I have to say this is the best house I have ever lived in Australia, although it’s just an average conditioned town house in this town. We enjoy the place, never cause any trouble and keep the house clean and tidy as much as I can. People who have ever been to my house would know that I am a very diligent person on housekeeping. There were a couple times that our landlord came in and check the pipes, when he opened our the cabinet under the sink, he was even surprised that I can keep the inside cabin so clean.

According to them, they like us and they wanted to keep a good relationship with us. But if I were them, I would not treat my favorite tenants like that. The funny thing was in the letter, they said they have made the most serious decision and only will raise the rent by $15.00 as if it was actually a pain for them, not us. It’s just ridiculously laughable.

Probably I’ve been naive about them and the whole thing. They are the business men after all. Thinking that we are not even allowed to have a little harmless kitten at home, but they are making the fortune by increasing the rent on disadvantage people like us, I felt even being more unfairly treated. He knows that we have no choice but putting up with the shit and keep the life going, and he knows we will still pay the rent like we always did in the past. But if they have ever had a bit of consideration about other people, they would understand that $15 for a business is just a very small part of money which they will make it $300 more a week from 20 tenants, while it’s almost somebody else’s whole life.

I know everything is actually going up, the petrol, the rent and whatever. And it’s getting very hard to find a place to rent at this moment out there in the leasing property market. But if you want to do it, just show up your cruelty to do it. Do not cover yourself under a nice coat as if you are the kindest people in the world . If you are reluctant to do it, just do not do it. There is no such thing called “have to do” in any business.

I just don’t understand why people don’t want to admit that they are actually robbers when they are actually robbing from people????
