Sometimes it’s harder than what you thought in order to find a right project for your old yarn. My grey mohair short sleeved top is a good example of this. I bought this top 2 years ago but I never had a chance to put it on. It’s a good brand from Etem, and it looks trendy as well. But I asked myself why this kind of thing is yet happening? I am not quite sure about the answer.

The top is made of neutral colour of dark grey and softest yarn in the world, a kind of very thin and fine mohair, and for my best knowledge, I would have used this kind of yarn to create a female look by knitting a plain yet comfortable sweater or something, but what I’ve got here is a raglan top with a length that I don’t know I should get it down to my butt or around over my waist. It’s like a dilemma. There was a bigger dilemma about it: I don’t know I should wear it over a shirt or wear it just as simple as a short sleeved top, as the middle area in the front piece is knitted with single strand of yarn (while rest of area was knitted with two strands of yarn) and designed as a big star shape, which is too thin to cover the bra. It means people can see through the top and see what’s inside :-( Look, I am not an old school being particularly sensitive to what’s supposed to show and what is not. But for this one, I hate the way how it turns out as on that area, there is also some embroideries of several words with black and silver thread. I suppose all of the attention from my audience will be drawn to that area at the end, and that is just not as natural as it is supposed to be. (I didn’t notice this detail until I first tried it on after I bought it back home. I was in a hurry to get it in a sale where the crowded shoppers all went crazy. I suppose I must be one of them :-) )

Anyway I decided to terminate the life of this top and use the yarn to knit another one. I have been searching the right pattern in the last one month. I was going to do a singlet knitted in rounds, for a time, and I tried a couple of rows. The work drove me crazy because the yarn is too thin. I don’t want to use four 2mm needles and be stuck with it for the whole next year. More importantly, I couldn’t even identify if the cast-on row was twisted or not at the end. I gave up and let it sit in my torte.

Last week I borrowed another book “Knitting in No Time” from the library and suddenly saw a project that might be suitable. It’s a lacy scarf, knitted also with mohair and has a vintage look due to the edging and lace design. I immediately started the job. It turned out ineradicably easy to knit and the effect looks great and much way better than I thought. I felt a big relief for finding this new place for my old yarn. I hope I could finish it off in this week. And for the rest of yarn left-over, I am thinking to make a hat similar as the one from The Pirates of Caribbean. I bet you can’t imagine what I am talking about:-)
