One of my students in the Chinese class is going to China this Friday. She is one of the Ice Dragon sport team members. The team has been invited by the Chinese government to visit 4 Chinese cities and compete with other teams from all over the world in some dragon boat races. So she will miss the last 2 lessons, but she will use what she learned from the class and practice them in the reality. I don’t know how she will find out about that, but it’s definitely something would make her excited and looking forward. Good luck! If she couldn’t get Chinese people to understand her, please don’t come back to blame her Chinese teachers :-)

My supervisor’s oldest son is going as well for the same occasion around the same date. I wondered if they know each other. My supervisor looks even more excited than her son does. She tried to make sure her son knows what is the right way to measure the fabric in China (she sews very well and likes Chinese silk since she was a little girl), so he can bring her some good quality pure silk back.

I told her that normally we use “尺(chi)” to measure the fabric, but meter (米 mi) also is commonly used everywhere. She looked a bit relief. She worried her son, a big & strong dragon boat paddler might got confused with all the lady stuff in a country where people speak crazy Chinglish. Now she knows at least her son can rely a bit on my student to spit out a couple of crazy Chinese words :-)

Now my husband is very keen to join the yacht club for the next season. He persuaded me to join as well. We can have first 3 times for free of charge to see if we like it or not. He is looking forward to paddling his very first one. My concern is whether I will get thick and strong arms if I choose this kind of exercise. I haven’t decided yet.
