We went to Young today to drop off some promotional materials. Apart from running between major medical clinic centres and the hospital, we couldn’t dare to miss out the most important event that’s happening in our capital cherry city of Australia, particularly around this time of the year.

Yes, now is cherry harvesting time!! I was kindly asked to go to JD’s Jam Factory to get a dozen of products back for my colleagues. Some stuff on their shopping list are really weird, like cauliflower pickles, quince jelly, fig and ginger jam. It took me quite a bit of time haunting on the factory’s shelves.

This factory is located about 1k from the town and the products are not very well organised though the shop front ladies were very friendly. I can sort of see the workers were busy on yielding more products behind the glass window. It was funny that one of products that I bought had not been labelled. The lady ran to the workshop and got the a string of labels out there and stick it on. It was like seeing a complete circle of how a home mill get their stuff done. I was impressed.

Well, with fresh cherries, we have to get them somewhere else. We found a little shop in Town called Fudge factory. We bought a box of 5 kilos cherries over there for $30, about $6 per kilo. The shop also has other cherry product like cherry choc fudge. I even saw chilli chocolate. The guy over there said it was extremely hard to make them, so it’s very expensive, like 25 dollars per 200 grams. I wonder how it would taste like.

We tried the cherries back home. Comparing to the cherries in Aldi at the same price, I have to say the taste is much better. They are firm, dark and taste so nicely sweet and rich. I enjoyed them very much. Even my fussy husband agreed me. He even mentioned about going to Young ourselves to buy more. Maybe it’s totally worth it even it takes 2 hours to get to there. The only thing is the time. There is not much time left before the cherry season ends.
