清明时节雨纷纷，路上行人欲断魂。

……想想自己从小到大都没真地迷过中国古典文学，十几岁时最多是爱几首婉约的宋词给自己的无病呻吟找些共鸣，大多数时间都是憧憬着西方世界的异国情调。

现在补课也来不及了，惭愧惭愧！！仔细回味，还是自己的东西诵吟着更有一种悠远、回味迥长的意境。年轻时被忽视了的课本上似乎十分无聊的东西，在这个雨夜之后干净清爽的清明日子里，就着一壶淡淡的香茶，再读一遍……

《途中寒食》

]]> Blog is an amazing place. Since my husband fell sick, I had quite a few people ringing to ask, as well as people trying to flick messages or emails to greet. Not like old days, most of these people got to know about our current situation through my blog (what we do today, what we eat now, or where we are up to so far). So it’s reasonable for me to believe that, NOW, I have a certain group of regulars who visit my blog, if not everyday, at least occasionally.

Like many bloggers who write for themselves, I have to say that I have never thought about advertising my blog or intending to attract more readers. But like many bloggers who have been writing for a long time, with the time progresses, I can’t help noticing all the stats which are the indicators of its popularity. I get 30-50 people to visit my blog for an ordinary day, but for a crazy day like 9th November 2008, I don’t know why I got 416 people visiting. It was just very strange.

Guess what? The most popular posts of my blog are about food, like baked chestnuts, lemon honey tea or soy bean pork feet soup, or practical stuff, such as home-made facial scrub and reverse parking techniques. Some of my knitting posts are popular too, I reckon the incoming link is probably from Ralvery and the readers are knitters too.

I tend to believe myself a private person. However with what I having been doing in the territory of blogging, I am now kind of convinced that I am actually quite outspoken:-) Any people who has average IQ, if they have been here for a while, would work out most of who I am, including my age even my DOB, which schools I went to, my favourite food, my hobby, our living arrangement, my work, the health problems I’ve got, my personality, what my mom and dad do, my husband, my entire family and my whole network of friends…….

In this situation of having a blog, it seems there’s no much secret that you can keep for yourself. However, it’s a personal choice. The time you chose to write on the Internet, you actually have chosen to sacrifice your privacy.

On the other hand, privacy can never become a big deal for those people who want to protect it. Remember last year when I was in China, I happened to have a conversation with my sister about my blog. She mentioned a lot of things that I had done in the past which she got to know through reading my blog. I was surprised and asked how she knew about them. She said “only because you let us…..”.

I guess she was right. I only say what I want to let you know. Blog is a place I share the information that I feel safe to give out. The rest of my life, remains as it is.

]]> We had rain in the early morning and also late this afternoon. This has been so nice to hear the rain drops falling down and making the unique sounds on roofs, leaves, ground and everything.

Last night when I was in the shower, I tried to memory one of poems from Tang Dynasty. I can only remember the first 3 sentences, just couldn’t memory the fourth one. Had to search on the Internet later to make it right:-)

“……天街小雨润如酥，草色遥看近却无。最是一年春好处，绝胜烟柳满皇都……”

It was so beautiful. I suppose it was a right thing that our parents made us to recite them when we were young.

]]> I like it a lot. I am such a visual person that reading things with eyes and making them over into another language in writing is always something I love and good at. But after sitting there translating a legal request in a drug dealing criminal matter for a whole day, my heart and body just don’t vote for it.

Well, translation is not always full of joy. Sometimes it feels like working on a renovation job on a shabby and small old house, or working on an alteration job on an old piece of cloth. You don’t have the complete freedom to be able to be creative enough and you know that there is always a limitation that you can’t go beyond it.

You can renovate your little house to give it an eye-catching and stunning new look, but you can’t make it a masterpiece. You always work UNDER its original author’s shadow so there is always the struggles between following no-matter-what, bad or good, and what’s-the-best. The problem is you are not THEM. You can hate what you did on your translation, but you can not hate what to be translated.

Like this one I had been working, 3 Chinese guys smuggled 10 cartons total 250 kg cocaine from China to Australia, and remitted over millions of AU dollars into Chinese banks. There are AFP, DPP, DAG and Restraining Court Orders documents all together to be translated so they can be sent to China authorities to act on “proceeds of offence”. There are nothing else but legal words, not mentioning that I had a strict deadline and intended to chase up the unpaid contracts down the tract about 3-4 months ago with the agency. I felt so used, as a tool for communication, instead of as a person for creating beauty of literature or conveying charms of another culture.

Looking back, I sort of loved my previous translation work for NG’s travel notes. They were harder, bigger, more time consuming and really killed my brain cells. The pay was actually much lesser, but in some way, they were quite satisfying. So who said we sold our soul for money??

]]> I guess people love secrets, that’s why there are always people (women?) love gossip so much as gossipping gives them opportunities to talk, listen to and pass the secrets on or say, some unofficial information on?

I am definitely one of them :-) My way to enjoy a secret is to read a mystery book which tells a story of secrecy and get myself deeply absorbed into it and see how it had been twisted and then how it’s been unfolded.

That’s why I decided to go for Dan Brown’s books. I am a bit of going insane at the moment as I am actually reading two books of him at the same time. I am reading The Da Vinci Code (a version with extra illustrated photos ) at home and Angels and Demons at the office when I am bored :-)

I’ve seen the movie of The Da Vinci Code. I loved it. But now I know the book is way far better than the movie. Comparing to the movie, the book contains at least three times of information than the movie, and Robert Langdon seems much smarter than he performes in the movie. Don’t get me wrong, Tom Hanks is great but the space for him in the movie is too limited. Movies can’t get audiences to guess what’s going through the characters’s minds and movies can’t tell you every tiny piece of information that has been written in a book.

Well, surprisingly, I have to say that Angels and Demons is even better than The Da Vinci Code. I just have read first 16 chapters and I was so absorbed into it that I forgot all about The Da Vinci Code at all. I just can’t put the book away. Now I feel a bit of pity that I chose reading it at office instead of at home, as apparently the time I could spend in the office is much lesser than that at home. It has to wait :-)

However, I am glad to know that Ron Howard is going to make a movie from this book and Tom Hanks will still be Robert Langdon. Also Naomi Watts is coming on board for the leading actress. I like them both. I am really looking forward to it, but according to the resources, I have to wait till 2009. Okay, be patient.
