A few months back when I was in the mood to welcome a new piece of furniture at home, I was quite productive and full of the home decoration ideas.
One of the creations I liked the most was a butterfly collage that I made completely out of the recycled items available at home.
A ugly brown wooden frame with broken glass. There is a bit history about this frame. It came with the certificate of me being “The Employee of The Months” many many years ago when I worked in a nursing home. The glass was broken last year and I hated the colour so much that I always wanted to throw it away. The reason it still lived in our house is it has pretty good quality.
What I did was to paint it over with white acrylic. It is not easy to do so, and the result was not very smooth, but I kind of like this effect as it looks a bit country and rusty. I do have a white spray paint at home but I find it disturbing to use as I simply don’t have time to set it up in an outdoor area with the little one by side all the time.
Some old magazine pages are what you would need. Just cut butterfly shape out of different magazine pages with different colours and texture. I cut 42 of them.
You would need sticky tiny little dots to adhere the butterfly at the centre back to the white mat. Organise your butterflies and make sure they are in straight lines and the wings are flipping up a little bit.
See, a frame without glass is perfect for this kind of project. I knew there was a reason I kept it. If you use the one with glass, you would need a shadow box type of frame, otherwise there won’t be enough room for flipping wings.
Easy project but looks different! FYI: just in case you like the candles better than butterflies in the photo. They are just candles sitting on the salt in different shapes of glass containers, which I enjoyed the idea too. Hehe, I think I was at my peak creating all these stuff:-)
