I love knitting baby bootees. They are quick to knit up and fun to make. You never get bored with doing them because in one tiny pair of bootees, there are so many knitting techniques you could use, from basic increasing, decreasing, k2tog, to fair isle, short rows turning.
And they are so cute, even you have to make the second one exact the same, you would still love to spare your time to do it without feeling even a bit annoyed. Of course, besides the above mentioned, you can decorate the finished bootees with all your creation and imagination, like i-cord, velvet ribbon, sheer ribbon, embroidery, buttons, sequin or some store-bought embellishments. The most important, it is done in no time, using up the left-overs, perfect for a frantic mother’s schedule and ideal for the last minutes gift.
I highly recommend Zoe Mellor’s beautiful book “50 Baby Bootees To Knit”, which I borrowed from the library right before I gave the birth to Vivian. I made this pair of creamy white bootees with my mom in January. It only took me some quiet time in two days to knit and my mom did seaming. Vivian is wearing them almost every day. They go well with her all sorts of colours of pants and keep her little feet warm.
Then I made this stripy pair with the left over red and white wool recently. I enjoy knitting them so much and they just look so beautiful and make me think of Converse’s canvas shoes. The size is a little bigger for Vivian to wear now, but I pretty much planed it to be worn by her in the next 3 months in the winter, so I am not worried that they won’t get worn at all. I am sure Vivian will love them.
Now I am addicted to it. I want to make another pair, something different from these two. Remember to a knitter, it’s actually a luxury to knit baby bootees, as babies don’t stay on their 0-9 months long enough before they wear the real shoes and run around on the ground. By that time, you don’t get an excuse to knit bootees for them even you fancy knitting one

i have the exact same book:-)
Really? Aren’t they cute?
Have you knitted anything yet?
Don’t forget to show me if you have done any of them
