After all it’s a hat. I never knitted a hat, and knitting a hat could be a lot of fun but not time consuming. The actual knitting hours I spent for this hat is only no more than 3 hours. But there is lots of work after the knitting. This hat has a design of ear flaps and two plaits, so I had to pay a lot attention on where I should sew the flaps and how to make the yarn ends invisibly tucked in. Sewing the ear flaps to place was not a big issue, but how to attach the plaits to ear flaps without making a mess? It’s very hard to attach a 12 strands yarn “lump” to just a single point of the ear flaps. I tried different ways to do it and undid the work several times until I got the right thing.

I used my husband’s head as a model to try out my work sometimes. He didn’t express any objection. Probably he found it amused to see how I worked it out. His head certainly is too big J Looking at the final result of the work, I would say it has some elements of Peru and South America and a Chinese soldier’s winter hat style, which reminds me Commerade Lei Feng :-) My own photos will be out soon, maybe tomorrow :-)
