Recently I have been particularly obsessed with new season’ trendy accessory, slouchy berets. Some knitters have already done a fabulous job and look really good on their project (Mind you that nowadays most of women who knit are really young groovy chics. Some of them are really beauties, like Crafty Pants and ysolda with cute nose pointing to the front).
Inspired by Magknit’s November projects, I started a new knitting project (Oops! It’s lacy pattern again), a lace beret with some yarn being left in the stash for a while. It is not a difficult lacy pattern at all, but my mind has been big mushy meshy this week, so I averagely made one major mistake every 5 rows.
This morning I got the thing done. Before doing the blocking which is suggested by the author, I already realised my knitting actually looked a bit twisted. The lacy pattern turned out a spiral not proper and straight shape with all the lines curving to meet in the centre. I couldn’t figure out why as I followed exactly as the pattern says and all the stitches finished perfectly matched. It’s still a round beret even the size seemed a bit small, but it mostly was caused by yarn thickness instead of my knitting.
I don’t think by blocking, I could correct this problem, so I gave up. Many hours knitting and reading those tiny letter on pieces of paper, now all had been wasted and disappeared in 30 seconds. I undid the work, making a hat to a big ball and I was really depressed. So far it is my first knitting tragedy. I finally tasted the bitter side of knitting
However, the more I failed, the more I actually wanted to try more. Isn’t this sick?
