Believe me or not, this is a bag who has two lives. It was me had given it twice.

I created one, then looked at it. I decided I was not happy, so I destroyed it and made another one. This is the fun part about hand knitting. You can start something you like and change your mind; or, you can undo something what you don’t like, and end it as if it never existed. Knitting has the capacity to let you try out every possibility. You never failed at which it turns out and what you had made. You only fail at which you couldn’t create and you are not able to achieve your imagination.

So if you ask me what’s the biggest difference between buying a knitwear from a shop and knitting something yourself, probably I wouldn’t say it is the cost. Knitting yourself might be slightly cheaper, but it’s not the point why so many people are so crazy about it. What interests them is something called “double enjoyment”. When they are knitting an object , they are knitting a kind of subjective experience at the same time.

Let me demonstrate it to you. The first life of this bag is a Paton Inca handbag as the left photo. I finished it 5 months ago, but guess what? I looked everywhere, but couldn’t find a matching buckle for it. So I never had been able to actually finish it off. Early of last week, after I finished all my yarn, I felt a bit empty in the heart, so I started to dig things in my stash. Suddenly I decided that I was going to undo it and make something without using buckles. Then I made it, another version of Paton Inca handbag, here it is, a version more suitable for carrying stuff around and full of fun. I love making those white bobbles. Never thought I could do one, but now I know I can :-)
