I did my very first watercolour painting tonight, if I don’t count those ones that I had done at my primary school’s art classes, hehe
Seriously I really made it. No matter how bad I am starting out, I have made the first step.
However, forgive me not showing it here. You probably understand why. How many artists would show you their very first painting? Or probably the very first one had long gone missing after so many years practise.
All I can say is, when I looked back on finishing this painting, I felt terribly embarrassed with my skills, however at the same time, also a lot to look forward to improve. It’s like any beginners at their very first stage, nothing is under the control…water, colour, brush….the painting looks not muddy but “dirty”. I can see many strokes without a certain purpose of expression laid over there, meaninglessly, and totally irrelevant to what I want to do with the theme.
Also, I think I do need a bigger flat brush (at least 25mm) to lay a wash, and I wasn’t very impressed with the colours of paints, a little bit “too much” (not very naturally clear toned) to me. But it’s no point to buy expensive artist quality paints at this stage anyway.
However, I can show you one of my sketch works that I did yesterday at the work (while I wasn’t busy). Mind you that I didn’t totally create this one, it was pretty much inspired by someone else’s work. Yes, I did do sketching much more than painting back to old days when I was young
